Beekeeping with Ian – 23 April ’12 – Buzzing

At last a sunny warm day, Bede’s world was buzzing and that wasn’t only the bees. The whole building was full of apparently about 600 children all enjoying St. Georges day. It looked like loads of fun but I only had a brief time to stay.

The bees are doing very well, despite the cold/wet spell the continue to build up strongly and I have had to add an extra two supers (the smaller boxes that go on the top of the hive). As a precaution I have also given them a bit of sugar syrup in case the weather stays cold.

Above is a diagram of a beehive so you can see the bits that make it up.
