School visits » Anglo-Saxon life

Find out about life in a reconstructed Anglo-Saxon village when you visit Gyrwe, our demonstration farm. Learn about and see the animals, buildings, crops and skills of the people of the time. Pupils will also have the opportunity to handle replica artefacts and observe displays in the new museum.

  • Max. number of children: 36
  • Time: 1 hour 45 minute led session
  • Cost: £3.00 + VAT per pupil

Note: This visit will be modified in bad weather.

For Key Stage 1

With this age we focus on developing an understanding of life a very long time ago. If you wish to come for a full day visit, we recommend pairing “Anglo-Saxon life” with “Boy at the monastery”. This will give a good balance of the broad (life in the past) with the detailed (life as a monk).

With Key Stage 2

If your emphasis is mainly on the Anglo-Saxons, we would recommend a combination of “Anglo-Saxon Life” and “Boy at the monastery”. If your topic has a more RE focus, we would recommend pairing “Boy at the monastery” with the “Scriptorium” session.
