School visits » The scriptorium

How were the great manuscripts made? What sort of tools did a monastic scribe use? Find out the answers to these questions when you look at replica artefacts such as a stylus, a lunellum and prepared calf-skin. Pupils will be able to try their hand at Uncial Script using a real quill pen (calligraphy pens are available for younger children [KS1], if required).

  • Max. number of children: 30
  • Time: 1 hour 45 minute led session
  • Cost: £3.00 + VAT per pupil

Note: It is essential that children are competent in using a pen. This programme is not suitable for Y2 and below.
