A wave of wannabe pirates joined us this Bank Holiday Monday!

A 'wave' of families descended onto the banks of Bede's World this Bank Holiday Monday for our fun filled pirate themed day. The swashbucking family fun included the chance to earn 'booty' by completing our treasure trail, hear stories of real life bucccaneers, join our pirate school, as well as learn more about the weapons used by pirates.

Children and adults alike got into the spirit of the event by dressing up as pirates. Bede’s World deputy director Pearl Saddington said: “This day is all about making people more aware of the river and how it has been part of our history. There is a history of Anglo-Saxons as sea raiders, and pirates are really just a springboard get people to think about how the river has been a means of us taking things out to other places in the world and bringing them back".
