Hive Artist Studios launched in 2013 at Bede’s World and is linked to Hive Radio; the aim is to give local artists free studio space - in exchange for sharing their skills back into the museum community - through work on collections, through exhibitions, through community workshops or special events. Hive Radio is believed to be the first museum-based community station of its kind in the country.
Station organiser Kathy Cremin said: “Our artist studios are creating a space for artists and the community to engage together, very much built on Bede’s ideas of the ways creativity celebrates the best of human beings and brings us together to share in something bigger than ourselves. Hive, in radio, arts and live events, is all about making the museum a genuine social space and building community.”
We have several artists as part of our studios, including Ayako Tani
, glass artist, and Robert Ander-Lipski
, mixed media artist.
