Thousands of visitors will descend on Bede's World on Sunday 18th May for our spectacular Medieval Fair. The family fun includes stunning falconry displays, fabulous historical re-enactments, medieval music and dance, as well as free access to the whole museum, farm and heritage site.

Olympic athlete opens exhibition
Olympic athlete Steve Cram came face to face with a photographic portrait of himself, when he joined us to launch North Face - Photographs from the National Portrait Gallery, a unique region-wide exhibition involving portraits of famous personalities who are all from, or have close links to, the North East.

A Northumbrian royal burial site?
Visitors to Bede's World on Saturday 26th January will have a chance to find out about exciting recent discoveries in Loftus, Cleveland, which is featured in this month's Saturday talk, at 12 noon.
The discovery in Loftus of a richly-furnished Anglo-Saxon burial site
with some very fine 7th-century jewellery has attracted a lot of
attention, with
speculation that the site must be linked to the Northumbrian royal
family due to the richness of the finds.

Bidding closes for Bede's World auction
Bidding has now closed for the Bede's World and National Glass Centre lot in the TopLots and ebay heritage auction. The unique experience was snapped up for £279 exceeding all expectations and providing valuable funds for the two charities.
TopLots was the first eBay auction of its kind where the UK's museums, galleries and heritage attractions went online with unique experiences and 'behind the scenes' activities up for grabs!

Podcast tours of Gyrwe released
Two new podcasts have been created giving tours of Bede's World's Anglo-Saxon Farm Gyrwe. The podcasts were created in partnership with local company Podcast Digital and voiced by storyteller Adam Bushnall and pupils from Mortimer School in South Shields.

Bede's home given World Heritage Site boost
The Wearmouth-Jarrow partnership is celebrating the announcement by the Department of Culture Media and Sport that the twin Anglo-Saxon Monastery Wearmouth-Jarrow, a European cultural centre and home to the Venerable Bede, will be the UK's nomination for World Heritage Site status in 2009.

Fabulous views of the Tall Ships
Set high above the River Tyne, Bede\'s World\'s Anglo-Saxon demonstration farm is an ideal place to watch the Parade of Sail on Thursday 28 July, as over 100 Tall Ships depart from NewcastleGateshead from 8am. Bede\'s World will be open from 8am, with a special Breakfast menu in the cafe, have-a-go in a coracle and fun hands-on ship-related crafts.

Lindisfarne Gospels Facsimile Tour
Saturday 27th November marked the launch of the Lindisfarne Gospels facsimile tour, as it returned to the North East for the second time. The Bede's World exhibition is the first venue for the tour and will be open to the general public from 27th November until 30th January 2005.

Sing with Bede!
A friendly and accessible introduction for anyone interested in Bede and his History to join a full day workshop on 31 July singing Anglo Saxon chant composed in honour of Bede's favourite saints: Gregory, Augustine, and Cuthbert. Music will include a setting of the famous story of Gregory seeing English slaves in the Roman forum, Augustine's arrival in England, and Cuthbert and the otters.

TV Archaeologist to launch Lindisfarne Gospels facsimile tour in Jarrow
TV archaeologist Julian Richards (Meet the Ancestors) will be at Bede's World in Jarrow on Friday to launch a new major exhibition.
A new state of the art facsimile copy of one of the world's most famous and beautiful books will be on view at the Jarrow museum for the next five weeks. The copy of the Lindisfarne Gospels is the centrepiece of a new exhibition at Bede's World, a site which is in itself synonymous with some of the finest books produced in the early medieval world.
