The Book of Welsh Saints
'Over 900 Welsh saints from the time of the so-called Dark Ages of the 5th and 6th centuries are described in detail from A to Z.This book also shows connections to the legendary Arthur. Some Welsh associations are quite surprising. Who knew that Saint Patrick was Welsh? There is even a St.Elvis. This very thorough book could be used as a visitors guide to Wales, as it marks all the important historic places such as Roman stones, the ruins of Celtic temples, the earliest of Christian chapels, holy wells where healing took place, ancient burial tombs and beautiful Celtic crosses. It also describes the significance of the Welsh traditions and religious holidays. You don't have to be Welsh to enjoy this book, but it will make you wish you were! I have certainly enjoyed reading it (and am still referring to it) and plan on using it as a source guide for my next trip to Wales from Canada. And now that I know it was St. Elen that predates St. Christopher as the patron saint of travellers, I will know who to ask for help! I have a lot of admiration for the author's dedication in compiling this massive piece of work. It was obviously a labour of love.Definitely worth having as an ongoing reference.'
